Start your first AI game

  1. Sign in and press Play

Open the game and sign in with a free account. Press Play to create a room.

  2. Choose Standard or Commander

Select your format in the room. For one opponent, keep two seats. For a larger Commander game, add seats with the seat count controls.

  3. Choose your deck

Use Choose your deck in your seat, or Edit decks to build or import one. Only supported cards are playable; an imported deck may need changes before it can be used.

  4. Add an opponent

Press Add opponent in the next empty seat. Choose an AI deck and Easy, Medium or Hard, then press Add player. Repeat for any other empty seats you want AI to fill.

  5. Press Ready

AI players join ready. With at least two players in the room, the game starts once you and any other people have pressed Ready. Add all the opponents you want before readying up.

Choose an AI level

  1. Easy

Adds variation to its choices for a more forgiving opponent.

  2. Medium

Evaluates its immediate options without Hard's extra lookahead.

  3. Hard

Plays ahead on key decisions, including attacks, blocks and responses on the stack.

AI makes its decisions from information it is allowed to know. It does not get to read your hidden cards. All three levels are free.

Practise, then review your game

The game handles the stack, priority, combat and triggers for supported cards. After a game finishes, match review lets you step back through it to see how the turns played out.

Finished games also earn XP toward your player level. Open Profile to see your progress toward cosmetic card backs, frames, battlefields and name plates. Supported cards are available without levelling up.

You can also add AI alongside friends in the same Commander room. See the Commander setup guide for inviting your group and choosing the seat count.

Free play, with cards still being added

There is no download, no card purchase and no card unlocking. You do need a free account. Commander and Standard are supported, but the full Magic card catalogue is not available yet. Check supported sets and the deck editor for what you can play.

On the Stack is in alpha, so expect bugs in gameplay and AI decisions. Report problems from the game's menu.
