Set up your Commander table

  1. Sign in and open a room

Open the game, sign in with a free account and press Play to create a room. In the room, choose Commander under Format. Players start at 40 life.

  2. Set the seats and deck rules

Use the seat count controls to make space for your group, up to six players. Choose Casual to allow decks with format warnings, or Strict to refuse decks that break Commander deck rules.

  3. Pick a supported deck

Use Choose your deck in your seat. Edit decks opens the deck editor, where you can build from playable cards or import from Archidekt. An imported list may include cards that are not supported yet; check it before playing.

  4. Invite friends or add AI

Share the room's browser link. Friends sign in and join the room, then choose their decks. To fill an empty seat with AI, press Add opponent, choose its deck and level, then Add player.

  5. Ready up

Each person presses Ready after choosing a deck. AI players join ready. Once at least two players have joined and everyone is ready, the game begins. Wait for your group to join before readying up.

A table that handles the rules

On the Stack handles the stack, priority, combat and triggers for supported cards. It also tracks commander tax and commander damage. You make the decisions while the game carries them out.

Casual and Strict control deck legality. Casual does not switch off the game's rules engine.

Check your cards before inviting the group

Play is free, with no card purchases or unlocks. The full Magic card catalogue is not available yet. Check supported sets and your list in the deck editor; a favourite Commander deck may still be missing cards.

On the Stack is in alpha. Expect bugs and incomplete card support. You can report a problem from the game's menu.

No playgroup available?
